Welcome to East of the City Theatre Company

A theatre company brought to you by Adrian Reilly and Jenny Alborough - long time theatre professionals and musical theatre collaborators.

Jukebox Free Guarantee

We have a 'jukebox-musical' free policy, whereby all of the songs in all of our musicals are original and specifically written for the show that they are in.

Brighton Fringe

In May 2017, we were at the Brighton Fringe, with Quiz Night - The Musical. This World Premier SOLD OUT all performances, not just at jazz club, The Verdict - our main home for the month, but also our special, extra show at The Nightingale Rooms. This year, we're spreading out with room for at least five more quiz teams at our new home for the fringe, The Latest Music Bar on Manchester Street, a stone's throw from Brighton Pier.

Adrian Reilly (Composer / Author)

Adrian has been composing since his teens, having first written songs for Worthing Youth Theatre, which he attended. At University, he collaborated on the songs for a musical version of Medea and composed and recorded the electronic soundtrack for a dance theatre piece, Under Glass. As an adult, his return to the south coast resulted in a return to Worthing Youth Theatre where he was composer in residence between 1997 and 2016, creating new music and songs for children's shows such as Peter Pan, The Little Prince and A Midsummer Nightmare. A wide range of influences were reflected in these compositions, which touched on jazz, classical music, electronic music, folk songs and contemporary trends in pop music.

During his ten years as a teacher, which is how he and Jenny met, Adrian was the Musical Director on several school  musicals and the choral arranger for his school's collaboration with Glyndebourne Opera.

Jenny Alborough (Artistic Director)

Jenny trained in Acting and Musical Theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and spent around 17 years working as a professional actress playing leading roles in plays and  musicals.  She is also a proficient clarinet player.

Jenny was a co-founder and director of the Brighton Revue Company – appearing in musical comedy revues and raising funds to finance performances of new plays by local writers.  Jenny has since re-trained as a Drama Teacher and is Head of Drama in a local East Sussex School where she has directed and produced about 9 large scale musicals and 20 plays.

Her association with Adrian Reilly is a long-standing one, and together they have produced and directed many large scale musicals and plays.
